WV Boating Safety Program

Current Stream Conditions

Did you know that there are over 2,000 miles of navigable, fishable streams in the State that comprise over 19,000 surface acres of water? There are also 21 large lakes over 100 acres in size that cover 20,118 acres of fishable and boatable waters. There are 41 small impoundment's covering 1,068 acres and 30 ponds managed by the Division of Natural Resources covering 204 acres.

All of these waters are available for your use. You can access an index to the boating regulations by selecting a topic from the box above.

Anyone born after December 31, 1986 must successfully complete a Boating Safety Education Course before operating a motorboat or personal watercraft upon the waters of this state (20-7-12b). Course topics include: Boating Terminology, Boat Types, Capacities, Registration Requirements, Safety Equipment Required such as life jackets, Navigation Rules, and Preserving a Safe Marine Environment.
