54. Amherst/Plymouth

Location: Putnam County
Between Bancroft and Hometown on state Route 62 and Heizer Creek and Manila Creek roads off state Route 62 north of Poca.
Size: 7,061 acres
Terrain: steep with over 90 percent covered with young oak-hickory forest
Hunting Prospects: deer, grouse, rabbit, raccoon, squirrel, turkey

Fishing Opportunities
Guano Creek backwater: shoreline fishing
Kanawha River: 1¼-mile section bordering the area
Game Fish: hybrid-striped bass, white bass, carp, channel and flathead catfish, freshwater drum, sauger

55. Beech Fork Lake

Location: Cabell and Wayne counties
Five miles south of Huntington, the area can be accessed from the west via state Route 152 and from the northeast via state Route 10 and Hughes Branch Road.
Size: 7,531 acres
Terrain: steep with over 85 percent of the area covered by oak-hickory-pine forest
Hunting Prospects: deer, fox, grouse, mourning dove, rabbit, raccoon, squirrel, turkey, waterfowl, woodcock

Fishing Opportunities
Beech Fork Lake: 720 acres

Millers Fork Pond: restricted to children 10 and under and Class Q permit holders
> trout stocked, catch-and-release bass year-round

56. Big Ugly

Location: Lincoln County
Twenty-five miles south of Hamlin off state Route 7, or 15 miles northwest of Logan off state Route 7 near the town of Leet.
Size: 6,000 acres
Terrain: steep with mature upland hardwood forest covering more than 95 percent of the area
Hunting Prospect: deer, grouse, raccoon, squirrel, turkey

57. Chief Cornstalk

Location: Mason County
Accessible by Nine-Mile Road traveling westward from U.S. Route 35 near Southside, can also be reached from state Route 2, five miles south of Gallipolis Ferry by turning onto Crab Creek Road leading east to Arlee and then onto the area.
Size: 11,772 acres
Terrain: gently rolling hills to moderately steep slopes, area is approximately 85 percent covered by hardwood forest
Hunting Prospects: deer, grouse, squirrel, turkey
Furbearers – fox, mink, muskrat, raccoon

Fishing Opportunities
Lake: 5 acres
> Trout stocked
Game Fish: largemouth bass, bluegill, channel catfish, trout

58. East Lynn Lake

Location: Wayne County
Fifteen miles southeast of Wayne, access to the area situated north of the lake is via state Route 37, and the southern portion can be reached via state Route 152.
Size: 22,928 acres
Terrain: steep with 90 percent covered by oak-hickory forest
Hunting Prospects: bear, deer, grouse, rabbit, raccoon, squirrel, turkey, waterfowl

60. Green Bottom

Location: Cabell and Mason counties
Sixteen miles north of Huntington, access via state Route 2.
Size: 1,096 acres
Terrain: flat mix of forest, wetland, agricultural land and open water
Hunting Prospects: deer, mourning dove, rabbit, squirrel, waterfowl
> Deer hunters are restricted to muzzleloading firearms and archery equipment.

Fishing Opportunities
Ohio River
Game Fish: hybrid-striped bass, smallmouth bass, carp, channel catfish, crappie, freshwater drum, sauger

61. Hilbert

Location: Lincoln County
Approximately two miles northwest of Sod, access is via state Route 124 and Jones Creek Road.
Size: 289 acres

62. Laurel Lake

Location: Mingo County
Northeast of Lenore off state Route 65.
Size: 12,856 acres
Terrain: steep slopes with narrow ridges and valleys covered with mixed hardwood forest, numerous hemlocks and a thick understory
Hunting Prospects: bear, deer, grouse, raccoon, squirrel, turkey

Fishing Opportunities
Laurel Lake: 29 acres

63. McClintic

Location: Mason County
Five miles north of Point Pleasant or eight miles south of the city of Mason off state Route 62 via Fairgrounds Road (CR12), follow WVDNR signs.
Size: 3,655 acres
Terrain: 600 acres of farmland, 1,100 acres of brushland, 180 acres of wetland, 1,775 acres of mixed hardwood forest
Hunting Prospects: deer, mourning dove, grouse, rabbit, squirrel, turkey, waterfowl, woodcock
Furbearers – beaver, mink, muskrat, raccoon

64. Mill Creek

Location: Cabell County
Three miles north of Milton, access is via county Route 13 (Johns Branch Road).
Size: 1,470 acres

65. Morris Creek

Location: Clay and Kanawha counties
Near Clendenin, primary access is from county Route 67 along Morris Creek, or county Route 65 in Leatherwood Creek.
Size: 9,874 acres
Terrain: steep and forested
Hunting Prospects: bear, deer, squirrel, turkey

Fishing Opportunities
Elk River: boat ramps at Queen Shoals and Clendenin Water Plant
Game Fish: bass, catfish, muskellunge, walleye

59. Tomblin

Location: Logan County
4.5 miles southwest of Logan and 25 miles north of WIlliamson on U.S. Route 119 to Gaston Caperton Road (119/96). Drive 1.5 miles to the Southwestern Regional Jail. A temporary office is adjacent to the jail. The area can also be accessed through Holden, W.Va. along Copperas Fork Road.
Size: 25,001 acres
Terrain: 60% of the area is comprised of steep slopes and narrow valleys of mature hardwood forest while 40% is reclaimed surface mine area supporting a mixture of open grasses and early successional shrubs.
Hunting Prospects: deer (archery only), bear, turkey, squirrel, grouse, rabbit. Tomblin is the site of the first elk stocking. Elk hunting is currently prohibited statewide.
Furbearers: bobcat, coyote, foxes, opossum, raccoon
NOTE: Portions of Tomblin WMA may be temporarily closed during certain times due to activities associated with mining and wetland mitigation construction projects.

66. Upper Mud River

Location: Lincoln County
Approximately 12 miles south of Hamlin on county Route 7 (Upper Mud River Road).
Size: 1,425 acres
Terrain: steep and 90 percent is covered by oak-hickory forest
Hunting Prospects: deer, grouse, rabbit, raccoon, squirrel, turkey, waterfowl

Fishing Opportunities
Lake: 306 acres - boat motors limited to 10 hp
> Two boat ramps
Game Fish: largemouth bass, bluegill, channel catfish, crappie, muskellunge

Accommodations and Facilities
On the WMA: swimming beach, picnic areas, playgrounds, softball field, bath house, restrooms
