30. Becky Creek

Location: Randolph County
About nine miles south of Huttonsville, access via county Route 43 (Becky Creek Road) from state Route 219. Several stream crossings can limit access during high water.
Size: 1,930 acres
Terrain: mountainous with hardwood forest
Hunting Prospects: bear, deer, turkey
Furbearers − bobcat, fox, raccoon

Accommodations and Facilities
On the WMA: Camping in designated area only.

31. Big Ditch

Location: Webster County
One-half mile from Cowen on county Route 30, 15 miles southwest of Webster Springs.
Size: 388 acres
Terrain: valley, moderate side slopes
Hunting Prospects: small game, waterfowl
> Hunting is limited due to area size.

Fishing Opportunities
Big Ditch Lake: 55 acres - electric motors only
> Physically challenged facility, no live minnows
Game Fish: largemouth bass, bluegill, channel catfish, crappie

32. Burnsville Lake

Location: Braxton County
Three miles east of Burnsville off exit 79 of I-79, or 11 miles north on U.S. Route 19 from exit 67 of I-79.
Size: 12,579 acres
Terrain: hilly and steep, some gently sloping upland areas and fairly flat creek bottoms with a mixture of young timber, brush and old fields
Hunting Prospects: deer, grouse, rabbit, raccoon, turkey
> Class Q hunting access is provided.

Burnsville Lake: 968 acres
> 3 boat ramps, physically challenged facility, trout stocked in tailwaters

33. Elk River

Location: Braxton County
Exit 67 of I-79 at Flatwoods, travel south on state Routes 4 and 19 about two miles to secondary Route 15, proceed east following WVDNR signs to Holly River section. From state Route 19/40 turn east onto state Route 17, go 3.7 miles southeast of Sutton and follow WVNDR signs to Elk River section.
Size: 18,225 acres
Terrain: steep hills, ridges and benches with mature hardwood forests
Hunting Prospects: deer, squirrel, turkey, waterfowl
> Class Q hunting access is provided.

1,440-acres
> 5 boat ramps, physically challenged facilities, trout stocked tailwaters •

34. Handley

Location: Pocahontas County
State Route 17, which intersects U.S. Route 219 at Edray approximately four miles north of Marlinton. From the Highland Scenic Highway, turn south on Forest Road 86 (Williams River Road) and state Route 17/4 following WVDNR signs to the area.
Size: 784 acres
Terrain: rolling hills and scattered steep slopes covered in hardwood forests, about 10 percent of the area is in openings
Hunting Prospects: bear, deer, grouse, turkey, waterfowl, woodcock

Fishing Opportunities
Williams River
Small Ponds:

Handley Pond: 5 acres - electric motors only
> restricted March through May to Class Q and children 10 and under
> open June through February under general regulations
> no live minnows

Game Fish: largemouth bass, bluegill, channel catfish, trout (stocked)

35. Huttonsville

Location: Randolph County
South of Huttonsville, this area can be accessed from U.S. Route 219 or via U.S. Route 250. Huttonsville Correctional Center is located within the WMA boundary. Safety zones are strictly enforced and a security force patrols the prison area.
Size: 2,720 acres
Terrain: farmland in valley, hardwood forest on mountain slopes
Hunting Prospects: bear, deer, mourning dove, turkey, waterfowl

Tygart Valley River
Game Fish:
bass, panfish

36. Slatyfork

Location: Pocahontas and Randolph counties
Turn off U.S. Route 219 at Beckwith Lumber Company near Slatyfork onto a gravel road that travels through the lumber company’s property. This road terminates at a WVDNR parking access.
Size: 49 acres
Terrain: narrow strip of river bottom running between railroad grade and the river
Hunting Prospects: deer, squirrel, turkey
> Hunting is limited due to area size, but area does provide public access to national forest lands.

Fishing Opportunities
Slatyfork River: 4.6-mile section of catch-and-release trout fishing
> Only foot traffic is allowed along the 4.6-mile catch-and-release trout area
Game Fish: trout

37. Smoke Camp

Location: Lewis County
Located on the Right Fork of Freemans Creek Road. Access via Doddridge County Route 58/4.
Size: 252 acres
Terrain: moderately steep and forested
Hunting Prospects: deer, squirrel, turkey
> Hunting is limited due to area size and limited access.

38. Stonecoal Lake

Location: Lewis and Upshur counties
South of U.S. 33 and 119 between Weston and Buckhannon. The area is accessible from state Routes 15, 36, and 7.
Size: 2,985 acres
Terrain: 80% hardwood forests with the remaining sections being wildlife clearings and brushy fields
Hunting Prospects: deer, squirrel, turkey, waterfowl

Fishing Opportunities
Stonecoal Lake: 550 acres - motors restricted to 10 horsepower
> 2 boat ramps, physically challenged facility

Game Fish: largemouth and smallmouth bass, bluegill, channel catfish, crappie, muskellunge, trout, walleye

39. Stonewall Jackson Lake

Location: Lewis County
Access the area by using I-79 exits 91 and 96.
Size: 18,289 acres

Terrain: farmlands reverting to woodland and rolling hills covered with mixed hardwood forest
Hunting Opportunities: deer, small game, turkey, waterfowl
> Class Q hunting access is provided.

Stonewall Jackson Lake: 2,650 acres
> 5 boat ramps, physically challenged facility, catch-and-release black bass, trout stocked in tailwaters •

40. Summersville Lake

Location: Nicholas County
Three miles south of Summersville on U.S. Route 19.
Size: 5,974 acres
Terrain: ranges from forested rolling hills to vertical rock cliffs
Hunting Prospects: bear, deer, grouse, squirrel, turkey

41. Valley Bend

Location: Randolph County
Fifteen miles south of Elkins via U.S. Routes 219/250.
Size: 31 acres
Terrain: Two wetlands
> Natural wetland: 10 acres
> Man-made wetland: 8 acres flooded seasonally

Hunting Prospects: migratory birds, waterfowl
> Hunting is limited due to area size.

Fishing Opportunities
Tygart River: undeveloped shoreline access
Game Fish: rock and smallmouth bass, panfish, trout (seasonally)

42. Wallback

Location: Clay, Kanawha and Roane counties
Take Wallback exit 34 off I-79 and follow WVDNR signs to the parking lot, or travel north of Clendenin on state Route 4 to King Shoals Road, or from Amma exit 25 from I-79 to county Route 29/9 (Pigeon Run Road). Laurel Creek section is accessed on county Route 18 from state Route 4 between Paxton and Varneytown.
Size: 11,758 acres
Terrain: hilly topography, forests, brushland
Hunting Prospects: deer, small game, turkey
> Class Q hunting access is provided.

Fishing Opportunities
Elk River
Laurel Creek:
trout stocked (seasonally)
Impoundment: 15 acres - electric motors only
> Boat ramp, closes at dark, no live minnows, trout stocked (seasonally)
Game Fish: largemouth bass, bluegill, channel catfish, muskellunge, trout (stocked), walleye

Accommodations and Facilities
On the WMA: 100-yard shooting range
