The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources allows the importation of certified triploid grass carp from certified vendors. The WVDNR recommends that you contact the district fisheries biologist responsible for the county where the pond is located for recommendations regarding stocking rates and advice on the suitability of triploid grass carp to control your aquatic weed problem. If you decide to stock triploid grass carp, you must obtain them from one of the vendors on the WVDNR approved vendors list. When you have made arrangements to purchase certified triploid grass carp from an approved vendor, you must then fill out an application to import triploid grass carp. An importation permit will be issued to the indicated vendor outlining certification and notification procedures. You will receive notification that a permit has been mailed to the vendor. West Virginia residents who have a pond in West Virginia may purchase U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service certified triploid grass carp without an importation permit from in-state vendors.
