Frequently Asked Questions about the Outdoor Youth Challenge

  1. What ages can kids be to participate in the Outdoor Youth Challenge?

    The Outdoor Youth Challenge is open to all kids ages 6-18.

  2. What will my child receive?

    Every kid participating in the youth challenge will receive a t-shirt and an experience of a lifetime.
     
  3. What ages are eligible to win the lifetime hunting and fishing license?

    All kids ages 6-18 are eligible to win the two (2) lifetime hunting and fishing license.

  4. Are prizes given both days or just on Sunday?

    Prizes are given away both days at the conclusion of the Outdoor Youth Challenge.

  5. Do you have to come both days to win prizes? Can we come only on Saturday or only on Sunday?

    You only have to participate one day (Saturday or Sunday), but you may participate both days if you like.

  6. Do I need to bring anything for my child to participate in the Outdoor Youth Challenge?

    Everything you will need will be provided. You DO NOT need to bring gun, bow, fishing pole, bait, etc.

  7. Does every kid win a prize?

    No, every kid that completes a youth challenge card will be eligible to win a prize, but all kids will not win prize.

  8. After completing, when do I know if I win a prize?

    Prizes are drawn at the completion of the Outdoor Youth Challenge both days Saturday, September 21st - 4:00 pm, and Sunday, September 22nd - 3:00 pm, at the Youth Challenge Registration Tent. Winners must be present.

  9. Does a parent need to accompany a child?

    Yes, children should have an adult accompany youth through the activities.

  10. Who helps the youth with these activities?

    WV Division of Natural Resources Staff and Volunteers help kids with the activities. 

  11. How long does it take for kids to complete the Outdoor Youth Challenge?

    It takes approximately 2 hours to complete all 26 activities. Of course, depending on the number of youth it may take longer to complete the course. It is recommended that you arrive early so you have plenty of time to complete all the activities.

  12. Do I have to sign up before the weekend of National Hunting and Fishing Days?

    No, youth sign up at the event. All youth should report to the Outdoor Youth Challenge tent located by the Stonewall Park Headquarters building to receive instructions, a card, and a t-shirt.

  13. Is there a fee to participate or compete?

    No, the Outdoor Youth Challenge is free! Youth ages 14 and under are Free at the gate as well.

  14. Do you have to have experience to participate?

    No, anyone can participate. This is a great place to try something for the first time with expert staff on hand.
