Tygart Lake State Park Decks the Hall and Throws a Party To Close out the 2007 Season

Tygart Lake State Park is the only state park lodge that closes for the winter season and reopens in mid-April, but it’s going to close out the 2007 season with a December to remember.

“Tygart Lake’s 20-room lodge and restaurant has a grand view of the lake,” says Assistant Superintendent Brennon O’Sullivan. “But winter pool for the lake is low and the lodge was not designed for winter occupancy, so this lodge does close on January 1 each year and reopens in the spring. But we do not go without fanfare.”

O’Sullivan, Superintendent Mick Elsey and the park staff make December one of the most popular visitation months at Tygart with holiday and Christmas decorations, December discounts and a New Year’s Eve party.

“Tygart’s lodge is framed entirely with small white lights. We have five-foot white silhouette trees along the lodge front and lighted wreaths. The lodge lobby and dining area have decorated trees and associated decorations. Poinsettias greet restaurant guests at their tables, and the recent snow just adds to the spirit of the season,” O’Sullivan explains.

The state park monthly electronic newsletter introduced the December discount at Tygart called “Last Call.” Through December 30, reservations staying one night Monday through Thursday get one night free in the cabins; or guests may take advantage of a one-night getaway (weekdays and weekends) in the lodge, including a free dessert and coffee. The information is available online at www.wvstateparks.com or by calling Tygart Lake Lodge at 304-265-6144. To join the park electronic newsletter list, click the “join our newsletter” link at the top of the page.

The New Year’s Eve Celebration on December 31 includes an overnight package with dinner, dance, and midnight toast. This years’ band is Exxposure and is classic/modern rock genre.

“Tygart Lake Lodge offers great service at an affordable price and throws a great New Year’s Eve celebration with dinner and a dance,” O’Sullivan concludes. “Everyone’s invited to visit Tygart Lake Lodge and close out the year in style.”
