Dinner Theater at Tygart Lake State Park Nov. 9 Opened Mail Creating Communication Problems

When Karen Vuranch and Gene Worthington begin to open mail at Tygart Lake State Park, it is time to listen up and hang on for a real look at the art of communication. The November 9 dinner theater production of “Opened Mail” at this state park promises guests and visitors a great evening of drama and laughs.

Known for her portrayal of Mother Jones, Pearl Buck and other historical characters, Vuranch and her husband, actor Gene Worthington, bring to life a series of different comic stories. Told in Reader’s Theatre style, Vuranch and Worthington bring to life a futuristic astronaut and his wife separated by space, two nuns in a convent who are not on speaking terms, and an irreverent look at George Washington.

Vuranch is a popular performer at West Virginia state parks and is always met with praise for her work. “I think more than her performances, which are always great, Karen and Gene elevate a sense of pride in West Virginia and the dramatic talents settled here in our mountains,” says Brennon O’Sullivan, assistant superintendent at Tygart Lake. O’Sullivan is quick to add that a great dinner theater is made up two components: talented entertainers such as Vuranch and Worthington, and a great dinner meal. “The opportunity to stay overnight at a state park is just icing on the cake.”

This special dinner theater event includes a dinner buffet, the option of an overnight stay and the evening merriment of discovering secrets revealed in opened mail. Overnight packages as well as dinner and theatre only are available.

Tygart Lake State Park is located minutes from Grafton in Taylor County. The park features a lake view 20-room lodge with spacious rooms, restaurant, cabins, and its focal point and namesake, Tygart Lake. Tygart Lake is open through December 31 and re-opens every spring in mid-April.
