DNR’s Wonderful West Virginia Magazine Receives National Communications Award

The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources’ Wonderful West Virginia magazine received a national communications award from the Association for Conservation Information (ACI) at the organization’s annual conference July 12 in Massachusetts.

Wonderful West Virginia earned first place honors in the category of “Magazine Article: State Parks, History or Cultural.” The winning article was from the June 2006 issue and was titled “In the Footsteps of Frontiersmen: Rediscovering the North Fork of the Blackwater River.” It was written by and included photographs taken by outdoor writer Ed Rehbein, who wrote of his experience retracing the 1852 exploration of the river by an expedition led by Philip Pendleton Kennedy, who kept a detailed diary of their excursion.

“The staff of Wonderful West Virginia is honored to receive national recognition for their efforts to inform and entertain our readers,” said Harry Price, DNR Executive Secretary and publisher of the magazine. “For several decades Wonderful West Virginia has been the premier publication about all the great people and fun places in our state, and we are proud that the judges at ACI recognize its quality as well.”

Wonderful West Virginia magazine is available at most places where magazines are sold, or by subscription by calling 1-800-CALL-WVA or by visiting the magazine’s Web site at www.wonderfulwv.com.

ACI is a non-profit association of professionals representing state, federal, and Canadian agencies and private conservation organizations. ACI's membership consists of the information, education, and public affairs staffs of state, federal, and Canadian wildlife conservation, parks and natural resource agencies. Many private organizations, corporations and individuals with similar functions also belong and contribute significantly to the organization’s mission.
