Chief Logan Lodge Begins Dinner Theater Series

Simon Starkweather. It’s not a familiar name in southern West Virginia, but it may become infamous on January 27. That’s when Chief Logan Lodge, Hotel and Conference Center in Logan County has scheduled a murder mystery dinner theatre and Simon Starkweather is a guest.

The Guyandotte Players will be performing the show “Murder’s in the Heir” by Billy St. John on Saturday, January 27. The hilarious mystery has many characters with enough opportunity, motive and weaponry to do the murderous deed. Between detectives, odd-ball, relatives and audience, the ‘killer’ will be revealed.

There are two dinner theatre packages available. The overnight package includes lodging at Chief Logan Lodge, Saturday January 27, with the dinner and theatre beginning at 7 p.m. and buffet breakfast on Sunday morning between 7:30 – 9:30 a.m. The overnight package is $145.99 per couple inclusive with choice of king and queen beds. The Dinner Theatre cost without lodging is $30 per individual and includes dinner and theatre production. Dinner buffet kiosk includes the restaurant’s group favorite, rotisserie chicken, other entrees and side dishes, salad, rolls, dessert and beverages.

Chief Logan Lodge is located on US 119 between Chapmanville and Logan at the end of the access road at mile marker 30.5. The contemporary lodge has 75 guest rooms with either queen or king beds, wireless Internet access throughout the facility, full-service restaurant, guest fitness center, and indoor pool and hot tub.

“The lodge (hotel) is attracting new visitors to the Logan area due to the conference center having overnight facilities,” says Sam England, acting general manager. “We have found that the lodge compliments other area hotel properties to encourage large meetings to this area. We are equally pleased to have the opportunity to offer special events, such as the ‘Murder’s in the Heir’ dinner theatre as a winter getaway.” England is superintendent at Stonewall Resort State Park and has been instrumental in the start-up of Chief Logan Lodge operation since mid-2006.

The West Virginia State Park system began total operation of the Chief Logan lodge/hotel, restaurant and conference services in September 2006. Like Pipestem, Blackwater Falls, Hawks Nest, Stonewall and Canaan Valley, Chief Logan Lodge is attracting reunions, receptions, business meetings, and in 2007 will recognize an increase of vacationers to the Logan region.

“The rooms surprise first time visitors to the area and even our area residents,” says Sissie Summers, Group Services Representative. “The combination of the bedding, earth tone colors and passive simplicity of comfortable furnishings is a ‘wow’ factor. Internet availability, having the restaurant open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and discovering fireplaces in the lobby and seven of the suites are also impressive. The overnight dinner theatre package and our winter ‘we’re open’ rate is priced to attract people to stay overnight at the lodge and see the newest West Virginia State Park addition,” Summers says.
