2006 Fall Trout Stockings Begin October 10

The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources 2006 fall trout stocking will take place during the weeks of October 10 and 16, according to Mike Shingleton of the DNR Wildlife Resources Section. Approximately 40,000 pounds of trout will be stocked during the two-week period in 25 streams and nine lakes as indicated in the 2006 Fishing Regulations booklet.

“Stream flows are very low, but all waters will be stocked with trout as scheduled,” said Shingleton. “Because of low, clear flows, anglers will have to use their best angling skills to be successful.”

Anglers are reminded that FR76-Cranberry River Road is closed from Big Rock Campground near Woodbine, upstream to Aldrich Branch. The closure is in effect from approximately 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. on weekdays. Access to the Cranberry River is available from Dyer on the Williams River via FR101. Anglers can also reach the Cranberry River from the Richwood area by using FR76 and FR81 to FR101.

Anglers can call the Fishing Hotline at (304)558-3399 or visit the Web site at www.wvdnr.gov to find out which streams and lakes have been stocked each day
