New Lodge at Chief Logan State Park to Open to Public for Reservations

One of the most visited areas in the State Parks system, Chief Logan State Park, now offers a new 75-room lodge to the public. The new facility, which sits along heavily traveled Corridor G near Logan, West Virginia, will officially open on July 28, 2006, according to West Virginia State Parks acting Chief Ken Caplinger.

Located in the heart of West Virginia’s southern coalfields in Logan County, the new lodge is adjacent to the park’s conference center and restaurant, which opened four years ago. The lodge features beautifully furnished rooms and suites with Internet connection, indoor pool, and exercise room. Each suite includes amenities such as a balcony or terrace, fireplace, microwave, and refrigerator while an executive suite will also have a Jacuzzi.

“The new lodge and conference center will cater to large and small groups and Hatfield-McCoy Trails users, as well as visitors and travelers in southern West Virginia,” Caplinger says. “Also, the facility is slightly less than one hour south of most of the Kanawha Valley’s large population base. We believe that its exceptional quality and proximity will make it an attractive venue for group business originating from there. By a considerable margin it is closer than any other state park lodge to Charleston and the surrounding area. ”

Future plans include construction of a recreation building near the lodge/conference center and possibly even construction of a road connecting the lodge site to the other portions of the park where day-use facilities, including a pool, picnic shelters, mini-golf, museum, and wildlife exhibit, can be found.
