Applications Available for 2006 Limited Permit Areas

Having Antlerless Deer Seasons

Applications for the 2006 Antlerless Deer Season are now available at all West Virginia hunting and fishing license agents, Division of Natural Resources District Offices, Elkins office and Charleston office, according to Curtis I. Taylor, Chief of the DNR Wildlife Resources Section. These applications may also be downloaded from the DNR web page at www.wvdnr.gov . These applications are for antlerless deer hunting opportunities in counties, or areas of the state where wildlife biologists have determined that a limited number of permits are necessary to meet management objectives.

Nine (9) counties or parts thereof, including Cabell, Gilmer, Grant (West of top of New Creek and North Fork Mountains), Kanawha (North of Elk River and West of Corridor G), Monroe, Pendleton (East of the North Fork of South Branch River), Roane, Upshur and Wayne (North of Route 37) and eight (8) Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) will have a limited number of Class N licenses for resident antlerless deer hunting from November 20 through December 2 on private land only, and December 4 through December 9 on public and private land.

Applications must be received by the Division of Natural Resources before the close of business on August 18, 2006. The 2006 limited resident antlerless deer season will provide an opportunity for 1,700 residents to participate on the eight WMAs. An additional 4,303 residents will be selected to hunt antlerless deer in the nine counties or portions thereof that are restricted to resident hunters.
