Celebrate West Virginia Day Weekend at State Parks and Forests

 

  On June 20, 1863 , West Virginia became the 35th state to enter the Union . Bring your friends and family out to West Virginia S tate P arks to celebrate this memorable occasion. During the state's birthday celebration, many outdoor pools or designated swimming areas will offer free swim coupons to each person attending on June 20. These coupons will entitle the holder a free swim at a later summer date. Coupon excludes July 4, 2006 .

 

June 18 -- Kanawha State Forest , Charleston, WV

Kanawha State Forest will host the Kanawha Valley Community Band. This concert is free to the public to honor West Virginia Day and will be at the swimming pool area at 2 p.m. For additional information, please call (304) 925-2771.

 

June 20 -- Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park, Parkersburg WV

Enjoy a summer outing on the Ohio River and a stroll on Blennerhassett Island . Cake will be served for this occasion at 2 p.m. For additional information, please call (304) 420-4800.

 

June 20 -- Prickett's Fort State Park, Fairmont, WV     

Prickett's Fort State Park will offer $1 park admission and free birthday cake and lemonade for this day. For refreshment hours or more information, please call (304) 363-3030.
