West Virginia State Park Foundation Receives $32,260

Gift for Valley Falls State Park

  A Fairmont, West Virginia woman, described by friends as a lover of nature who liked to feed birds and loved gardening, has left in her will a bequest of $32,260 to Valley Falls State Park in Marion County. Her wish was that it be used for park beautification, says Ken Caplinger, Deputy Chief of the Parks and Recreation Section of the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources.

  “This caring individual obviously had a deep affection for Valley Falls State Park and wanted to assure that the area is preserved and maintained for future generations,” Caplinger says.

  This gift was given to the West Virginia State Park Foundation to be invested, with only the earned interest to be used for improvements to the park. This assures that the endowment will be a perpetual gift. The donor wished to remain anonymous and that request will be honored.  

  The West Virginia State Park Foundation is a private non-profit 501(C)(3) foundation whose purpose is to preserve, protect and enhance West Virginia State Parks by providing leadership in communication, funding and advocacy in partnership with individual State Park Foundations.
