West Virginia 's Archery in the Schools Program Training Scheduled November 29 th and 30 th in Logan County

  The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (DNR) will be hosting its next training for the West Virginia Archery in the Schools Program at the Logan County Vo-Tech Center on November 29 th and 30 th , according to Scott Warner, Program Coordinator. DNR implemented this program last fall in 19 schools around West Virginia as part of its pilot program to introduce physical education students to an activity that anyone can participate and teach a life skill that can be done beyond the classroom. Over the past year this program has attracted a great deal of interest, allowing DNR to provide additional trainings throughout West Virginia, more than doubling in size with 66 physical fitness instructors from 47 schools successfully completing the Level I Certification as required to participate in the program.

  “ Chapmanville Middle School ( Logan County ) was selected as one of the first schools to participate in the pilot program and the response from the students over the past several months has been terrific,” Warner said. “From the beginning, Logan County Board of Education has been very supportive of this program, allowing Chapmanville Middle School to be one of the first schools to participate. Because of their success, there has been a lot of interest from other physical education instructors in Logan County to participate, allowing us the opportunity to host a training session for the rest of the schools and hopefully a few schools from the surrounding counties.”

  DNR is working with David Godby, School Superintendent for Logan County , but would like to welcome schools from other counties to attend. Schools interested in attending have until November 15 th to sign up for this training. However, due to the type of training and amount of time needed for hands-on-instructions, classroom size will be limited. Schools unable to attend the training in Logan should note that upcoming trainings have been scheduled for January 10 th and 11 th in Wheeling at Cabelas and in Pocahontas County in the near future (date and location not determined at this time).

  “DNR thanks the Logan County Board of Education and the School Superintendent for their support.” Warner said. “We especially thank the students and faculty at Chapmanville Middle School for their success in participating in the pilot program.”
