23rd Annual Lumberjackin' Bluegrassin' Jamboree

At Twin Falls Resort State Park October 7-9

 

  The 23rd Annual Lumberjackin' Bluegrassin' Jamboree at Twin Falls Resort State Park near Mullens in Wyoming County is scheduled for October 7 - 9, 2005 . A family-oriented event, the jamboree features a woodsman's competition, bluegrass music and a variety of arts and crafts by area residents.

 

  Early arrivals will enjoy Friday entertainment by David "Bugs" Stover and Lynn Mills as they present "Of the Hills" from 6 p.m. to approximately 7 p.m.   This presentation will include area ghost stories and tales of heritage from West Virginia lifestyles.

 

  Lumberjacks and jills from West Virginia University, Virginia Tech and Gilbert Lumber Company will take center stage with the woodsman competition and demonstration on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. and concluding at approximately 1:00 pm. Coordinated by Twin Falls State Park, WV Division of Forestry and Gilbert Lumber, the events include ax throw, log roll, crosscut saw, chain saw, one-man bucking, bolt splitting, horizontal chop, pole fell and more. The woodsmen competition is at the park's ballfield.

 

  The hot saw demonstration; Red bone II, the WV Division of Forestry's Arson Dog; and Smokey Bear are also scheduled for the Saturday morning program.

 

  Don Blanchard will demonstrate the art of chainsaw carving on Saturday from 10 a.m. to dusk. Blanchard's carvings range from Smokey Bear to eagles and Indians. His wood artistry will be featured on the lodge lawn.

 

   Bluegrass music by the Acord Family Band will be featured Saturday 3 to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. This Wyoming County family group represents some of West Virginia 's best bluegrass music. The bluegrass concert will be at the amphitheater.

 

   Art and crafts' exhibits are open Saturday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. These exhibits will be within the interior and exterior of Twin Falls ' lodge area. The familiar face of Ray Kincaid will be turning apple butter Saturday and once again Uncle Arthur's Pork Rinds will be there. The park's three interior conference rooms will feature a variety of crafts. The Division of Forestry exhibit will be in the nature center. Hayrides will depart from the upper pro shop parking lot on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.

 

  Lumberjackin' Bluegrassin' Jamboree clogging is scheduled for both days at the amphitheater. Fancy footwork by Lou Maiuri and Company will perform Saturday at 1 p.m. while the Mountain Valley Cloggers are featured Sunday at 1 p.m.

 

   Twin Falls Resort State Park is located in Wyoming County on Route 97. The jamboree is open to the public and there is no admission charge.
