New “Float Your Boat” Vacation Package at Bluestone State Park

Boats are afloat at Bluestone Lake with the debut of a new Pontoon/Cabin Vacation Package at Bluestone State Park near Hinton in Summers County. From September 6 through October 13, Bluestone State Park and Bluestone Marina are offering a mid-week cabin rental package that includes a pontoon boat rental on Bluestone Lake and overnight accommodations in a Bluestone cabin.

Cabin styles vary from 2 person cottage-like units to modern 4-bedroom accessible cabins. Fully equipped for housekeeping, linens provided, this package appeals to people looking for some lake fishing and “a whole-lot-of-nothing-to-do but relax,” according to Brett McMillion, park superintendent. “ Cabins at Bluestone have always been popular with family reunions in the summer and ski groups in the winter,” says McMillion. “This year we've had requests to rent cabins and a boat and we are pleased to be able to accommodate our guest requests.”

Guests at Bluestone cabins have an additional treat in store. Indoor pool facilities at nearby Pipestem Resort State Park are included in cabin package rentals as well as tennis court and game court use. It's a unique relationship to have two state parks close enough together to share amenities with guests. It is a short 12-mile trip to Pipestem from Bluestone State Park.

Bluestone's “Float Your Boat” package is one of many outdoor opportunities offered at WV State Parks this summer and into fall. The main Web page at www.wvstateparks.com features several stay and play packages ranging from horseback riding, smallmouth fishing to golf and bicycle opportunities. Lodging sales representative Sissie Summers explains that people are asking for a quiet cabin or lodge area with just a little something to do for a long weekend or mid-week getaway. “Stay and play” packages are designed to allow visitors to enjoy various recreational aspects of park activities or nearby recreation such as whitewater rafting or float fishing that are part of Pipestem's packages. “Sometimes trying a new outdoor activity in a pre-planned package opens new doors of adventure for our guests,” says Summers. “ Lodging packages introduce people to an outstanding park system that continues to provide places for people and nature to meet.”

Bluestone State Park is open year-round for family vacations, reunions, fishing and winter getaways. Buffered by a 2000-acre lake, Bluestone waters are noted for channel catfish, striped bass, croppy, largemouth, and bluegill.
