McClintick Group Camp Opening Soon with New Facilities

at Cabwaylingo State Forest

Large groups looking for a retreat into nature will be able to take advantage of updated group camp facilities starting on May 1, 2005 at Cabwaylingo State Forest in Wayne County .

Recent updates include two new barracks for sleeping and a new bathhouse. Plans are currently being studied and proposed to build a new kitchen to replace the exiting one.

The group camp facility will sleep a total of 100 people with each new barrack accommodating 50 people. Each of these new barracks has restrooms incorporated. Beds and mattresses are provided, but campers must bring, sheets, pillows and blankets.

A new shower house at the camp area offers hot and cold water for showers, along with additional restrooms. Also, available is a fully equipped kitchen, dining room and activity room. The kitchen has ranges, refrigerators, freezers, mixer, coffee pot, trays, pots and pans and silverware for 100 persons. Campers should bring dishtowels, detergent and garbage bags. The dining area has tables with side benches and the activity room has a few tables for coloring and book type activities for smaller children.

There is an open pavilion for night time activities with electric, tables and lighting. The park offers a council circle for roasting marshmallows and night time activities, such as campfires and sing-alongs under the stars.

Those staying at the group camp will have access to a nearby basketball court and will receive free admission to the pool starting on May 28. Pool hours are from 11 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. On Sundays and holidays, the pool is open to the public at 11 a.m. and closes at 6 p.m.

The group camp facility closes in late October. Rates are $1,000 plus tax per week. For more information or reservations, please all (304) 385-4255 or 1-800-CALL WVA.
