Moncove Lake to be Drained for Repairs

The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources announced today that renovations and repairs to the dam at Moncove Lake State Park in Monroe County are slated to begin in mid-May. Effective immediately, preparations will begin which require the lake to be drained prior to the start of construction. The lake will remain drained until the project is completed. Under favorable conditions, anticipated completion of the project is December 31st , 2005.

“Aside from fishing and boating activities, all park facilities will continue to operate as normal during this time.” said Robert Beanblossom, a district administrator with DNR's Parks and Recreation Section. State Park staff also will be coordinating fish recovery efforts with DNR fisheries management staff during the draining period, according to Beanblossom. The lake will be drained at the rate of about one foot per day.

Moncove Lake State Park features a 50-unit campground, a swimming pool and related day-use recreational facilities.
