Earth Day at the Capitol April 22

  Earth Day at the Capitol 2005 will be held Friday, April 22, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. around the north fountain of the State Capitol in Charleston , according to Chris Cartwright, West Virginia Make It Shine project coordinator for the Environmental Resources Section of the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources.

 

  Approximately 30 educational displays and activities promoting Earth Day, environmental education and environmental stewardship will be available to individuals and school groups. Exhibitors will include federal, state and local agencies, as well as environmental groups. More than 300 students are expected to attend. DNR and the Division of Forestry will be giving away tree seedlings to attendees.

 

  Exhibitors will include:

•  DNR Adopt-A-Highway/Adopt-A-Spot

•  DNR Youth Environmental Program

•  DNR Environmental Resources Section

•  DNR Wildlife Diversity Program

•  DNR Law Enforcement

•  DEP Stream Partners

•  DEP Pollution Prevention Open Dump

•  DEP Office of Air Quality

•  DEP Public Information

•  WV Solid Waste Management Board

•  Department of Agriculture's Pest Survey Program (insects)

•  Division of Forestry (tree giveaway)

•  Three Rivers Avian Center (live birds of prey)

•  WV Soil Conservation Agency

•  National Park Service

•  Dow Chemical (science demonstration)

•  Department of Transportation Public Transit

•  Butterflies from Heather (live butterflies)

•  Putnam County Solid Waste Authority
